Finite days. Infinite love.
Canuck Place Children’s Hospice provides complex pediatric palliative care for children with serious illnesses and their families across BC and the Yukon. A full life has many meaningful moments, and at Canuck Place, we believe that the shortest lives should be the fullest of them all. Together, we support families in living the end of life as fully as the beginning.

COMMUNITY-BASED CARE: where and when they need it
One more cuddle
Imagine a day when the world slows down, and all that matters is one more cuddle with your loved one. For families at Canuck Place, it’s the little things, a fleeting moment of normalcy that means the most. Canuck Place offers families a choice where they receive care, and often, they choose the comfort of their own home.
In-home care looks different from day-to-day, family-to-family, based on the unique needs of the child and the trajectory of their illness. Canuck Place nurses are available 24-7 for families through the Clinical Care Line, and nurse practitioners and physicians provide in-home care visits for pain and symptom management, phone calls, memory making mementos, and end-of-life support. Canuck Place counsellors also support families in-home with grief and bereavement counselling and music therapy.
MEDICAL RESPITE STAYS: Time Together
One more outing as a family
We all have finite days. And whether our time is a little longer—or all too short—what matters most is making memories we can carry for a lifetime. What if you had one more outing as a family? How would you spend that time? At Canuck Place, during respite stays, we help families create meaningful moments together. Our recreational therapists facilitate activities and community outings so families can cherish their time together. Your generosity can give families one more moment to carry with them.
Medical respite care at our Vancouver and Abbotsford hospices helps ensure rest and renewal for families by allowing them to focus on being parents, rather than caregivers. Families can enjoy nourishing meals, counselling appointments, music therapy sessions, and recreation therapy outings
COUNSELLING: Grief is an expression of Love
One more birthday to celebrate
Grief is a natural, full-body expression of love that is felt in the heart and carried in the body. It doesn’t follow a straight line or a timeline. Instead, it shifts as families learn to integrate loss into their lives. Within each human is a natural capacity to adapt, grow, and carry love forward.
Canuck Place counsellors support the whole family; parents, caregivers, siblings, grandparents, and all who love and miss a child. On average, families remain in bereavement care for three years after their child passes.
Recreation Therapy: Memories to last a lifetime
One more adventure together
Canuck Place’s recreation therapy team specializes in making dreams accessible for all. Through cherished memories, shared experiences, and sacred mementos, they empower children and families to build precious memories together and celebrate life by providing opportunities for play, connection, and fun.
Our recreation therapists provide help kids and families have fun together through adaptive adventures. Through their passion and creativity, they ensure almost any activity can be modified to be accessible for kids on program—from sit-skiing, zip lining, and kayaking to the highly anticipated Canuck Place summer camps, where children with significant medical needs can go and just be kids.
Loving fully through uncertainty
“Being Heston’s mom is truly a privilege. It’s a daily reminder of what truly matters. What once seemed important becomes frivolous, and life takes on a new depth. I have often felt that before I had Heston, I lived my life in black and white, and now it’s in colour.”
